Magnus Andersson, CEO of Besqab, comments:
“Slakthusområdet is already a destination in Stockholm, and it’s exciting to contribute to the development of new homes, commercial spaces, and services. Fransyskan is the first project in the area with tenant owned residential apartments and with its design - featuring a preschool and a wide range of apartments, from functional studios to spacious five-room units with private rooftop terraces - we aim to create a vibrant new neighborhood.”
The Fransyskan development is designed by Andreas Martin-Löf Arkitekter, with an architectural approach that reflects the historical context of the site. The block consists of four buildings of varying heights, offering both private and shared rooftop terraces. In total, the project includes 122 condominium apartments, a standalone preschool building, and commercial spaces on the ground floors of the residential buildings. Besqab took possession of the land from the City of Stockholm on June 27, 2025. The project will be executed as a turnkey contract in collaboration with Bygg R1 and is scheduled for completion in early 2028. Fransyskan is being built to meet Nordic Swan Ecolabel certification standards and is expected to achieve energy class B.
Slakthusområdet is undergoing a transformation through sustainable urban development, with a focus on food, culture, and experiences. Culturally and historically significant buildings are being restored and repurposed with new functions. The area is planned to include approximately 3,000 new homes, 14,000 workplaces, and a wide range of restaurants, retail, and services.
